Obituary

I visited Don at his home about a year before he died. We spent the whole day together photographing flies. Cool guy. I liked Don a lot. At the Golden Gate ponds in San Franscisco there is a great collection of historical flies in shadow boxes. Many of the great East and West coast fly tiers are represented there.

But if you judge by the quality of the flies tied the two very best, in a class by themselves, are Nelson Ishiyama and Don Labbe, who are and were long standing members of the club. Don had a great fly collection. Many of the flies on this website (like most of the Cal Bird flies) were Don's. Don was a hell of a fly tier himself.
